RH4D Advanced Manipulator

About

About RH4D Advanced Manipulator

RH4D is a compact 250-gram manipulator with 11 mechanical degrees of freedom controlled by four integrated actuators. Wrist rotation and flexion combine with independently actuated and tendon-equalised fingers, allowing the hand to conform around objects while retaining a compact power-grasp configuration.

Magnetic finger protection and Dyneema-reinforced tendons reduce damage during overloads. The EROS controller returns position, speed, temperature, current and actuator information at up to 120 hertz, while a palm sensor detects nearby objects. ROS, Python and serial interfaces support integration with robot arms, with an ISO 9409 mounting adapter available.

Capabilities

Source-backed capabilities

  • Capability areas: Actuator feedback, Robotic grasping, Adaptive grasping, Dexterous manipulation
  • Workflows: End-effector manipulation
  • Operating environments: Robot arms, manipulation research and compact end-effector experiments
  • Target markets: Teams wanting more capability than a basic gripper but less size/complexity than a five-finger hand.
  • Deployment model: Commercial compact manipulator for robot-arm and manipulation-research integration.
  • Robotic grasping

Research

  • Seed Robotics ROS control and pressure-sensor stack for RH-series hands

2022-08-22 - Research Publication - Seed Robotics publishes this ROS Noetic package for its RH-series hands and manipulators, explicitly including RH4D, RH6D and RH8D. The control package exposes joint position, speed and stiffness commands through ROS messages, with Python and C++ examples and a documented maximum working frequency of 50 Hz. A companion sensor package reads FTS1 and FTS3 pressure sensors, and RH6D and RH8D examples demonstrate pressure-threshold and constant-force grasp control.
