• 2026-09-21 - Facility Opening - Boston Dynamics opens Atlas training center at Hyundai Metaplant

  RMAC operates inside Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America near Savannah, Georgia and is scheduled to move into a building about ten times larger in 2027. The training programme starts with parts logistics and sequencing, with component assembly planned from 2030. Hyundai plans 25,000 Atlas units across Hyundai and Kia plants over the coming years and a US production facility rated for 30,000 robots annually.

• 2026-09-13 - Capability - Hyundai puts autonomous-driving Data Flywheel into operation

  NVIDIA-based Level 2+ production vehicles are targeted for the first half of 2028, followed by Level 2++ vehicles in the second half of 2028. Hyundai and 42dot target production of proprietary Atria AI Level 2++ vehicles in the second half of 2029. The operating framework uses about 40 dedicated data vehicles, hard-example mining, continuous training and virtual validation, with a Level 4 Gwangju pilot planned by year-end.

  Combustion and hybrid platforms require additional power, cooling and powertrain-control integration for the driving computer and sensors. Hyundai expects supervised-driving performance and safety to be comparable across electric, gasoline and hybrid platforms. The programme extends the group's previously announced staged roadmap from Level 2+ production vehicles toward Atria AI and Level 4 capability.

  The drone directs 50 litres of water per minute across a 12-to-15-metre radius to suppress dust in areas difficult or unsafe for workers and conventional equipment. A continuous power cable and water hose remove onboard battery-duration and tank-capacity limits while allowing operators to retarget the spray as demolition progresses. The same construction R&D programme includes wearable robots, material-transport robots, cleaning robots, Spot quadrupeds and autonomous drone stations.

• 2026-08-10 - Deployment - Hyundai WIA begins residential parking-robot pilot in Siheung

  Each system uses a pair of 110-millimetre-high robots that lift vehicles by the wheels, move omnidirectionally at up to 1.2 metres per second and handle up to 3.4 tonnes. The Korean smart-city regulatory-sandbox project will measure wait time, parking success, robot uptime, throughput and space efficiency in residential operation. Hyundai expects the layout to improve parking capacity by 20–50% and plans standard operating models for residential, commercial, public and transport buildings.

  The proposed transaction would consolidate Boston Dynamics ownership among Hyundai group shareholders.   NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung discussed work across mobility and physical AI at Hyundai's Seoul headquarters. Huang said the companies were exploring broader autonomous-mobility technology and safety work, while Chung called NVIDIA an indispensable partner. The meeting also covered Hyundai's proposed Saemangeum AI, robotics and data-centre ecosystem; it recorded a direction for expanded cooperation rather than a completed deployment.

  Boston Dynamics became Hyundai Mobis’s first official robotics-sector customer. The agreement covers actuator development and supply for next-generation Atlas, with future manufacturing plans. The partners cited automotive component engineering, quality evaluation and mass-production experience.

  Resources shifted toward development and generalization of Motional core driverless technology. The revised plan de-emphasized near-term commercial deployments and ancillary activities. Motional had completed more than 100,000 autonomous rides in Las Vegas and thousands of autonomous food deliveries in Los Angeles.

  The electric design was intended to offer greater strength and range of motion than previous Atlas generations. Boston Dynamics planned to work with a small group of customers, beginning with Hyundai, to test and iterate industrial applications over the following years.
