About OceanScan

OceanScan designs and manufactures the LAUV family of lightweight autonomous underwater vehicles for oceanographic, hydrographic and security missions. A single operator can launch and recover a vehicle from shore, a pier or a small boat without a crane. Modular navigation, communications and payload sections accept side-scan and multibeam sonar, cameras, environmental sensors, Doppler velocity logs and inertial systems for seabed mapping, water-column profiling, inspection and search.

Neptus software covers mission planning, simulation, execution, vehicle monitoring and post-mission analysis for one or multiple LAUVs. A portable Manta gateway links Wi-Fi, cellular, satellite and acoustic communications, while the open LSTS software toolchain lets users add algorithms and behaviours. Profiler configurations operate for more than eight hours at three knots and can exceed 48 hours at two knots; Mapper variants support pipeline inspection, mine countermeasures and underwater surveillance. OceanScan reports worldwide deployments totalling thousands of operating hours, including vehicles delivered to the Danish Navy.

  • 2022-06-03 - Deployment - OceanScan expands Danish Navy LAUV fleet

Hydro International reported the second delivery on June 3, 2022 after the April handover in Frederikshavn. The additional vehicles retained the side-scan sonar, inertial navigation, Doppler velocity logging and communications configuration used by the initial fleet. Previously delivered LAUVs were already in regular Danish Navy mine-countermeasure operations and had located multiple contacts of interest.

  • 2022-02-14 - Deployment - OceanScan delivers first LAUVs to Danish Navy

OceanScan reported the first three-unit delivery on February 14, 2022 after handover at Frederikshavn naval base in January. The LAUVs carried side-scan sonar, inertial navigation, Doppler velocity logging and surface and underwater communications for mine hunting. Sea trials located a prepared sonar target within three metres after more than 8 kilometres of unaided submerged travel.

  • 2021-02-18 - Capability - ENDURANCE extends LAUV missions beyond 48 hours

LSTS published the ENDURANCE results on February 18, 2021 and identified OceanScan as the LAUV commercial developer. New batteries, power management and current-aware route planning extended open-sea operation beyond 48 hours. Satellite control and the Ripples planning system let shore teams monitor missions and intervene only when forecasts or traffic required attention.
