Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Henderson, Western Australia, Austal is a public shipbuilder with production and support operations across Australia, the United States, the Philippines and Vietnam. Its portfolio spans high-speed commercial craft, patrol vessels and larger naval programmes, supported by digital shipyard and sustainment capabilities.
Austal’s Korthos relevance is the industrialisation layer for autonomous maritime systems. The company has integrated autonomy into existing hull designs and entered a teaming agreement with Saildrone covering manufacture of aluminium Surveyor uncrewed surface vessels. That role differs from a software-first autonomy developer: Austal contributes naval architecture, production engineering, shipyard capacity and lifecycle support. Customer programme volumes and the share of revenue attributable to uncrewed systems remain limited or undisclosed.

- 2026-07-03 - Deployment - OLP Robotics supplies WeCobot welding system to Austal
Austal installed the collaborative welding system at its Henderson shipyard for fabrication testing. OLP Robotics supplied the turnkey package locally and supported coding and commissioning. The system welds aluminium and steel while working alongside Austal's skilled fabrication team.

The exclusive Australian teaming agreement covers local manufacture of the 20-metre Saildrone Surveyor for Indo-Pacific deployments. Austal said parallel production in Australia and at its Mobile, Alabama shipyard would increase capacity to scale uncrewed-vessel deliveries. The Surveyor is designed for deep-ocean mapping and above- and below-surface intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
