About CGI Motion
CGI Motion designs and manufactures precision transmission assemblies used between motors and moving mechanisms. Its standard range includes inline and right-angle planetary gearheads for servo, stepper, permanent-magnet DC and AC induction motors, with configurations balancing torque density, backlash, shaft loading and packaging. Washdown-ready stainless products extend this motion layer into food, pharmaceutical and other hygiene-sensitive equipment.
The Carson City operation also cuts gears, machines tight-tolerance parts, assembles electromechanical systems and tests completed gearheads. Custom work ranges from altered shafts and motor interfaces to multi-item assemblies for medical instruments, aerospace systems, semiconductor tools and packaging machinery. This prototype-to-production model lets robotics and automation builders obtain a matched gearbox, motor, encoder and controller package or commission a transmission designed around a constrained joint or machine axis.

CGI employed approximately 130 people at the time of the transaction. Timken expected the acquired business to generate around $45 million in 2024 sales.
