Kardex supplies automated storage and order-fulfilment systems for warehouses, factories and distribution centres. Its range includes Shuttle vertical lift modules, Megamat carousels, miniload and conveyor systems, high-bay pallet storage and software for inventory control, equipment monitoring and pick guidance.
As an AutoStore integrator, Kardex builds cube-storage systems in which robots travel over a grid, retrieve stacked bins and deliver them to staffed or automated ports. FulfillX translates warehouse-management orders into robot and workstation tasks, while the Intuitive Picking Assistant projects visual cues at a port. Kardex can also connect robot arms for depalletising, replenishment and piece picking, linking dense storage with automated handling across the surrounding material flow.

The brownfield system uses 24 R5 robots, 16,376 bins and four CarouselPorts, integrated with Kardex Mlog systems at Playmobil’s Herrieden logistics centre. The installation handles individual spare parts and complete playsets, supports more than 20,700 annual shipments and delivers four times the storage capacity within the existing footprint. The operation reports 99.7% uptime and lower energy needs through aisle-free storage and regenerative robot braking, while Kardex Holding AG served as the integration partner.

The system was designed to handle about 200 crates per day across a 5,000-square-metre operating area. It replaced repeated manual crate movements between storage and production. MPA Technology served as the system designer and integrator for the combined AMR and storage workflow.

The Renton distribution center uses AutoStore to induct individual blank garments into a cubic Grid and deliver orders directly to CarouselPorts, reducing travel through the multilevel pick tower. The project specifications list 54 R5 robots, more than 34,000 bins, nine CarouselPorts and two ConveyorPorts across roughly 10,000 square feet of the facility. Kardex supplied the WES layer through FulfillX, while the redesigned workflow can complete a blank order in under 10 minutes and leaves room for five-year growth.
