Shin-Etsu Chemical supplies materials across semiconductor manufacturing, polymers and magnetic components. In rare-earth magnets, its process expertise includes grain-boundary diffusion: selected heavy rare-earth elements are concentrated near the boundaries of the magnetic grains to improve resistance to demagnetisation while limiting the reduction in magnetic strength.
This lets material processing address the competing requirements of strong magnetic output and stability in demanding motor applications. Its neodymium magnet grades serve industrial servo and linear motors alongside automotive and other drive systems. The magnet business sits within a wider portfolio that includes semiconductor materials and silicones, supplying upstream inputs used by electronics and motion-equipment manufacturers.

- 2026-04-14 - Production Milestone - Shin-Etsu joins Japanese rare-earth magnet recycling scheme for new magnet production
Shin-Etsu Chemical joined Daikin, Tokyo Eco Recycle and Hitachi in a Japanese rare-earth magnet recycling initiative. The partners plan to develop automated equipment in 2026 and start full-scale operations in 2027. Shin-Etsu will use recovered magnets as raw materials to produce new rare-earth magnets for supply-chain resilience.
