About Resonac
Resonac Holdings oversees a diversified materials group formed under the Resonac name in 2023 through the integration of Showa Denko and the former Hitachi Chemical group. Within its semiconductor and electronic-materials portfolio, Resonac manufactures silicon carbide epitaxial wafers by growing controlled SiC layers on single-crystal substrates.
The company operates SiC epi-wafer production in Chichibu and has developed 200 mm samples alongside established 150 mm products. Device manufacturers use these wafers in high-efficiency power semiconductors. Robotics exposure is therefore indirect but material: the devices can support compact motor inverters, industrial power conversion, charging and energy systems rather than robot-specific hardware.

The epitaxial growth process addresses propagation of substrate dislocation defects into the grown layer. Target applications include compact power modules for high-end electric vehicles and railcars.

Initial six-inch material supply is intended to progress toward eight-inch wafers in later years. Infineon will provide intellectual property concerning SiC material technologies. The supply is expected to cover a double-digit share of forecast demand over the next decade.
