AIMM

AIMM is DLR’s Autonomous Intelligent Mobile Manipulator research prototype. A holonomic mobile base carries a manipulator, tool changer and pan-tilt perception head, giving the system 13 degrees of freedom and a workspace up to two metres high. Two laser scanners, stereo vision and a colour camera support localisation and object perception around the 450-kilogram platform.

The onboard software stack combines perception, reasoning and manipulation for operation in partially unknown environments. DLR has used AIMM in laboratory automation, aircraft-assembly logistics, hazardous maintenance and automotive material-handling research. The tool changer allows the platform to switch equipment between tasks, while mobile manipulation lets it approach articulated devices and workstations that a fixed arm cannot reach.
