RACK

About

About RACK

Gravis RACK is a modular rooftop autonomy kit for excavators and wheel loaders. Forward cameras and lidar scan terrain ahead of the machine, while rear masts combine GNSS RTK, wide-angle HDR cameras, 3D lidar, long-range Wi-Fi and status lighting. Automotive-grade edge compute keeps core operation local when a network connection is unavailable.

The system builds a live three-dimensional view of surrounding terrain for cut-and-fill visualisation, as-built records and adaptive excavation. Gravis Slate gives an operator a rugged tablet interface and integrated wireless stop. Configured workflows include digging and loading spoil piles, hoppers or trucks, with the machine detecting truck position and adjusting the loading cycle under supervision.

  • Gravis validates autonomous excavation with Morgan Sindall

2025-11-28 - Deployment - Gravis’ November 2025 release describes field use with construction partners, and Morgan Sindall Construction says the robotic excavator can be as productive as a skilled machine driver while improving team efficiency in some situations. The retrofit system combines learning-based control with hydraulics, LiDAR, cameras and GNSS, while Gravis Slate provides a tablet interface for autonomy and augmented manual control. Gravis reports 30% higher output, reduced rework and improved safety across trenching, earthworks, grading and material handling; the release names Taylor Woodrow’s Manchester Airport project as the UK’s first large-scale active-site autonomous-excavation deployment.
