KMR iiwa

About

About KMR iiwa

KMR iiwa combines a KUKA LBR iiwa collaborative arm with an autonomous omnidirectional mobile platform. Laser scanners support navigation and obstacle response, while Mecanum wheels permit lateral movement and rotation in confined production areas. Seven joint-torque sensors provide contact sensitivity for mobile handling and machine-tending configurations.

The LBR iiwa 7 R800 configuration pairs a 7 kg arm payload with 800 mm reach; the 14 R820 pairs 14 kg with 820 mm. The platform carries 170 kg with the arm and travels at up to 3.6 km/h, with positioning accuracy stated to ±5 mm. Tooling, localization infrastructure, process safety and the selected arm must be resolved for each cell.

  • Localization, inspection, and reasoning (LIRA) module for autonomous workflows in self-driving laboratories

2025-11-28 - Research Publication - University of Liverpool researchers test an edge-computing vision module on a KUKA KMR iiwa in laboratory workflows. Fiducial localisation and vision-language inspection help identify placement errors at instruments and sample racks; the reported proof of concept is not a fully autonomous experimental cycle.
