uSkin Sensor Family

XELA Robotics uSkin is a family of soft, high-density three-axis tactile sensors for robot hands, grippers and custom contact surfaces. Each sensing point measures normal pressure and shear displacement, while the elastomer layer conforms to contacted objects and protects the electronics. Available geometries include protected gripper modules, curved fingertip and phalange sensors, and flat arrays that can be adapted to a machine’s surface.

The sensors provide digital output with minimal wiring and connect to XELA’s uAi software for visualization, calibration, recording and compensation. Published family characteristics include sensing points around 4 mm square, thickness from 4 mm, sampling up to 500 Hz on the uSPa 11 and force resolution down to 0.1 gram-force. Grasp control and manipulation remain functions of the integrated robot, controller and application software.
