About Harris Aerial

Harris Aerial builds modular multirotor aircraft for industrial, scientific and government missions. Its Carrier line spans compact quadcopters, electric and hybrid hexacopters, coaxial octocopters and an H6HL platform rated for payloads up to 40 kilograms.

The H6 airframe can switch among battery-electric, fuel-powered hybrid and hydrogen fuel-cell propulsion while retaining a common payload bay with power and data interfaces. The Hydrone configuration is rated for as much as 180 minutes with a five-kilogram payload, and the EFI version for up to 240 minutes. Harris machines structural parts in Florida and integrates lidar, cameras, communications and other customer sensors.

Timeline

Events

  • 2023-06-05 - Deployment - Harris H6E completes 77-mile BVLOS inspection

Valmont and T-Mobile announced the completed flight on June 5, 2023. The Harris H6E flew the 77-mile Texas route in under three hours with a connected Sony camera while inspecting power lines, railways and bridges. The mission transferred live data over 5G, used less than two gallons of fuel and completed the route three times faster than conventional inspection methods.

  • 2022-05-09 - Deployment - Harris Aerial maps historic Groveland cemetery

Harris Aerial documented the Groveland, Florida survey on May 9, 2022. A Harris drone carried RIEGL sensing equipment over dense vegetation to help identify graves and reconstruct the cemetery layout. The mission demonstrated a public-interest mapping use where aerial data reduced the difficulty of ground-based inspection in heavy cover.

  • 2022-05-04 - Deployment - Harris Aerial HX8 enters SurvTech’s LiDAR survey fleet

The survey configuration carried SurvTech’s RIEGL VUX-1 LiDAR payload on the electric coaxial aircraft. Sarasota National Cemetery’s noise policy ruled out the team’s gas-hybrid H6, which made electric operation useful for that project. SurvTech compared the HX8 with its DJI Matrice 600 Pro and reported longer flight time with the same LiDAR payload.

  • 2019-07-09 - Partnership - LiDARUSA integrates scanners with Harris hybrid multicopters

The gas-electric aircraft can power heavy-lift multicopter missions for as long as five hours. A Carrier H6 can carry a three-kilogram A-series scanner for about two and a half hours. Longer endurance lets operators cover large rural survey areas with fewer individual flights.

  • 2018-02-15 - Product Launch - Harris Aerial launches Carrier H4 Hybrid

Harris Aerial dated the Carrier H4 Hybrid launch to February 15, 2018. The platform was specified to fly for more than two hours with a payload near 10 pounds and nearly five hours without a payload. Harris targeted search and rescue, disaster response and surveying work that conventional short-endurance battery drones could not sustain.
