About Direava
Direava’s Kinosura software analyses operative video during robot-assisted surgery and highlights selected anatomical structures in the live image. Its first authorised application supports oesophageal cancer surgery by identifying the recurrent laryngeal nerves, helping the surgical team maintain awareness of structures that can be difficult to distinguish during dissection.
Beyond that narrow clinical product, Direava is developing vision-language models that combine surgical video with procedure steps and clinical context. The intended workflow is to recognise anatomy, tools and phases, then support documentation, training and real-time decision assistance through the same imaging feed already used in the operating room. The software is designed as an intelligence layer for endoscopic and robotic platforms, while the imaging system remains the operating interface for the surgical team.

Events
- 2026-03-27 - Capability - Direava validates Surgical VLM during live gastric-cancer surgery at Keio University Hospital
The clinical demonstration took place at Keio University Hospital on 20 February 2026. Surgical VLM combines intraoperative images with structured language to recognise anatomy, procedure state and relevant next-step context. Evaluation scores reached 84.7 percent for anatomical accuracy, 82.9 percent for clinical usefulness and 97.4 percent for language fluency.

Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare granted approval on 9 December 2025 under approval number 30700BZX00326000. CYNOSURA processes surgical video in real time to identify and highlight the left and right recurrent laryngeal nerves. The approved indication supports recognition during robot-assisted surgery for malignant oesophageal tumours.
