About
About Hokuyo Automatic Co., Ltd.
Hokuyo Automatic manufactures scanning range sensors, photoelectric devices and optical data-transmission equipment for industrial automation. Its compact laser rangefinders are used on mobile robots and automated guided vehicles for obstacle detection, localisation inputs and monitored safety areas.
Hokuyo supplies sensing and communications components rather than complete navigation or mobile-robot systems. Coverage, precision and safe use depend on the exact model, mounting, environment and host controller.

Timeline
Events
- 2024-05-22 - Product Launch - Hokuyo introduces commercial YLM-10LX solid-state 3D LiDAR
The design uses a smaller LM10 Light Control Metasurface chip and a more compact internal structure. Software-configurable fields of view and line-by-line scanning are intended to improve measurement in mobile environments. Hokuyo positioned the sensor for AGVs, AMRs, service robots and other expanding mobile LiDAR applications.
Source - 2023-11-15 - Funding - USD 25 million round expands SiLC machine-vision production
New strategic participants included Hokuyo Automatic, Hankook & Company and ROHM Semiconductor. The financing brought SiLC's cumulative funding to USD 56 million. The capital was allocated to increased production and commercial growth.
Source - 2023-06-01 - Partnership - Hokuyo and Lumotive collaborate on solid-state 3D LiDAR
The companies introduced the YLM-X001 prototype around Lumotive’s Light Control Metasurface beam steering. Hokuyo combined its LiDAR design experience with a non-mechanical scanning architecture. The work targeted mobile applications including AGVs, AMRs and service robots.
