About Piasecki Aircraft
Piasecki Aircraft develops and flight-tests advanced vertical-lift and uncrewed aircraft. ARES is a modular tilt-duct VTOL system built around a reusable flight module and interchangeable payload modules for logistics, intelligence, communications and other expeditionary missions from confined landing areas.
The ARES demonstrator completed tethered hover flights with and without the US Army's Mobile Multiple Mission Module in 2024. Piasecki has also developed Turais air-launched surveillance aircraft, KlearPath autonomous navigation and landing technology, and the PA-890 slowed-rotor compound aircraft. Its programme work spans aerodynamic design, rapid prototyping, fly-by-wire control, electric and hydrogen propulsion, systems integration and experimental flight operations.

- 2025-04-29 - Acquisition - Piasecki acquires KARGO UAV program from Kaman
The acquired KARGO UAV program is a medium-lift autonomous logistics aircraft effort. Piasecki said the deal expands its portfolio of vertical-lift and uncrewed aircraft technologies. The transaction gives Piasecki control of a program aimed at contested logistics and expeditionary cargo movement.

The ARES demonstrator lifted off at Piasecki's Essington, Pennsylvania facility. The tilt-duct aircraft is designed for modular uncrewed cargo, casualty evacuation and logistics missions. The test followed DARPA-origin development work and marked a concrete flight milestone for the platform.

The award was made through AFWERX and the Air Force Research Laboratory STRATFI program. Piasecki said the work supports next-generation vertical-lift aircraft and hydrogen propulsion development. The award is relevant to autonomous aviation because Piasecki is developing uncrewed and optionally crewed vertical-lift systems.
