About Volta Space Technologies

Volta Space Technologies is developing LightGrid, an orbital power network intended to beam optical energy to equipment on the lunar surface. Robotic assets carry a compact LightPort receiver rather than a large generation and storage package; orbiting transmitters then deliver power when local solar conditions or mission geometry would otherwise interrupt operations.

The commercial model is structured as shared infrastructure, with mission operators paying for delivered power instead of procuring a dedicated power spacecraft. That approach is intended to support rovers, landers, instruments and communications assets through lunar night and shadowed regions while reducing mass carried by each customer. Volta remains in the development and demonstration phase and is working with government and commercial lunar organisations, including ispace-U.S., on receiver integration and survival-through-the-night mission planning.
