About Alta Ares

Alta Ares develops European counter-uncrewed-aircraft systems and onboard AI for detecting, tracking and responding to hostile drones. Its work combines sensor processing, edge intelligence and integration with wider command and effect systems used for air-defence and critical-site protection.

The company focuses on software that can interpret aerial threats close to the sensor and contribute tracks or decisions to a layered counter-drone architecture. In June 2026, Alta Ares and Airbus Defence and Space agreed to cooperate on European counter-UAS development and integration. The partnership places its technology within larger defence programmes while the company continues building specialist AI and system components.

Timeline

Events

  • 2026-09-17 - Commercial Order - Novacium receives first commercial order for Alta Ares interceptor-drone battery packs

The AA NOVA 6S3P packs deliver 15,000 mAh using 18 silicon-anode 21700 cells and are lighter than Alta Ares' reference battery at comparable performance. The order follows nearly six months of co-development and a July 2026 test campaign in which ten prototypes met Alta Ares' performance and reliability criteria. The packs are scheduled for delivery before the end of September 2026; X-Lock is an AI-guided quadcopter interceptor selected under France's DGA ELISA programme.

  • 2026-08-03 - Partnership - Alta Ares and General Cherry integrate AI guidance into Bullet

Pixel Lock detects, identifies and tracks airborne targets before autonomously guiding the interceptor during the terminal phase. Cyclop C2 provides mid-course guidance, with the combined stack intended to improve operation in GNSS-denied and electronically contested conditions. The signed MoU covers software integration and subsequent platform testing; it is not presented as a completed production deployment.

  • 2026-06-16 - Partnership - Alta Ares combines interceptor stack with MBDA for ELISA

The proposed solution builds on Alta Ares’ X-Lock and Black Bird interceptors and Pixel Lock terminal-guidance AI, with MBDA contributing guidance, weaponization and secure data-link building blocks. The partners target a first Shahed-class interception solution from 2027 and plan industrial capacity of several hundred interceptors per month at launch. France’s DGA launched ELISA in April 2026; the seven-year programme can support up to four partners and allocate €18.7 million across development, evaluation and industrialization phases.
