WHILL
About
About WHILL
WHILL’s autonomous service lets a passenger select a destination on the device’s touchscreen and travel through a mapped facility. After the journey, the vehicle can return to its home location without a rider. That return function addresses the repositioning work that otherwise accompanies assisted passenger transport through a large terminal.
The company supplies remote monitoring of device performance and integrations with workforce-management platforms for dispatching. Facility teams can view usage across the available mobility resources and coordinate the service with staff-assisted journeys. This operating system sits alongside WHILL’s personal mobility products, combining accessible transport hardware with navigation and fleet coordination for managed public spaces.

Timeline
Events
- 2026-10-19 - Funding - WHILL raises mezzanine financing through bond-type preferred shares
The mezzanine instrument strengthens capital while avoiding dilution of ordinary equity. The company combines mobility hardware and service software for short-distance travel. The bank assessed the business’s contribution to mobility needs arising from ageing populations and labour shortages.
Source - 2026-08-31 - Deployment - WHILL begins 18-unit autonomous mobility rollout at Changi Airport
The first full-deployment phase follows a 10-unit trial fleet that operated from March 2025 through 2026. Airport staff remotely dispatch units to arrival gates, where they carry passengers with reduced mobility to a service lounge or onward boarding gate. WHILL describes Changi as its largest airport deployment to date and says its Autonomous Service now operates across 26 airports and facilities globally.
Source - 2026-08-25 - Capability - WHILL announces Haneda T1 autonomous-service expansion
Terminal 1 already operates 12 WHILL units from four stations between 08:00 and 20:00. The extension adds access to gates 24 through 29 when the north satellite facility enters service. WHILL expanded its cooperative fleet-management system beyond its own vehicles so mixed autonomous robot fleets can share the same operating space.
Source - 2026-06-04 - Deployment - Heathrow Terminal 3 trials WHILL self-driving chairs with ABM
Travellers select a destination on a touchscreen and the device navigates through Terminal 3. The chair autonomously returns to its home location after completing a passenger trip. WHILL reported that the Heathrow deployment brought its service network to 26 airports and facilities.
Source - 2026-03-31 - Deployment - Anchorage airport starts WHILL service for Alaska Airlines passengers
The service began on March 31 as the airport's first autonomous mobility-assistance programme. NMS staff screen and prepare passengers before transferring them to WHILL autonomous chairs. The service carries eligible Alaska Airlines passengers through the terminal from the assistance workflow toward their gates.
Source - 2025-08-21 - Deployment - Munich Airport begins WHILL gate-navigation service in Terminal 2
The service began in the satellite building of Terminal 2 in early August 2025. Aicher Airport Services supports boarding while passengers select their gate on the chair touchscreen. The chair navigates to the gate and autonomously returns to its starting point after the trip.
Source - 2024-03-27 - Deployment - WHILL and Envoy deploy autonomous mobility service at LAX and MIA
Autonomous chairs began taking American Airlines customers to gates at LAX and MIA. Envoy and WHILL moved from trials begun in 2022 to the first commercial U.S. airport installations. Passengers select a gate on the touchscreen and the chair autonomously transports them through the terminal.
