Unplugged
About
About Unplugged
Unplugged develops contactless power and data interfaces for subsea vehicles, tools and rotating machinery. Its inductive modules span sensor-level power through multi-kilowatt charging, transferring energy across a sealed gap where exposed electrical connectors would corrode, wear or require frequent maintenance.
Subsea docking stations let AUVs recharge and exchange data while remaining underwater, with configurations for fixed, buoy-mounted and mobile or towed deployment. Current systems support torpedo-shaped and flat vehicles, power from 200 watts to 2.5 kilowatts and aggregated data rates up to 10 gigabits per second, with a 25-kilowatt roadmap. Inductive swivels also carry power and communications through continuous rotation for robotic tool changing and harsh industrial equipment.

Timeline
Events
- 2026-09-14 - Partnership - Unplugged joins Ocean Autonomy Cluster
The cluster highlighted Unplugged's work in subsea autonomy, defence applications and harsh-environment industrial systems. Unplugged identified persistent underwater surveillance and protection of critical subsea infrastructure as priority areas for member collaboration. The company plans to contribute through workshops, joint demonstrations and national and European maritime-autonomy funding initiatives.
Source - 2025-12-10 - Award - Unplugged selected for NATO DIANA's 2026 cohort
The programme provides contractual funding and access to DIANA accelerator sites and test centres. The selection supports development and validation of dual-use technology against an Allied defence and security challenge.
Source - 2025-01-24 - Deployment - Unplugged supports 240-day Hydrone-R residency at Njord
Hydrone-R was recovered on 24 January 2025 after remaining deployed from 20 May 2024 at about 330 metres depth. The vehicle completed untethered autonomous inspection and leak-detection work while continuing its normal drill-support duties. A Blue Logic docking station used Unplugged inductive charging and communications so the vehicle could recharge and offload data on the seabed.
Source - 2024-06-05 - Deployment - Unplugged enables 167-day subsea drone residency at Njord
Hydrone-R completed more than 280 docking and undocking actions during the continuous subsea period. The residency included more than 10 autonomous missions and 35 manipulations, including valve opening and closing. Unplugged designed the inductive couplers installed in both the charging station and the underwater intervention drone.
