About Allonic

Allonic's 3D Tissue Braiding process builds compliant robotic mechanisms as monolithic structures. A machine first produces the scaffold, braids soft load-bearing tissue around it and routes tendons, pulleys and guides during fabrication; actuators are then connected to complete the mechanism without conventional multi-part body assembly.

The approach is being developed for hands and other complex robot bodies where compliance, distributed load paths and integrated tendon routing are useful. Allonic Hand Mk2 is the current demonstration platform. The company says its second-generation production machinery is five times faster, half the size and capable of three times the yarn-count resolution of the previous system.
