About Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories
Employee-owned SEL develops the digital relays, automation controllers, communications equipment and monitoring systems used to protect electric-power networks. Founded in Pullman in 1982 by Edmund O. Schweitzer III, it combines engineering, assembly and testing across several United States manufacturing sites.
Inside those factories, SEL grew a single collaborative screwdriving pilot into 27 production stations. Universal Robots arms work with Robotiq screwdriving systems, component feeders and 2F-85 or 2F-140 grippers for screw installation, circuit-board handling and related assembly. The programme handles about 1.4 million screws a year and eliminated the repetitive-motion injury pattern reported before automation.

The programme automates approximately 1.4 million screws annually. The programme combines screwdriving workcells with 2F-85 and 2F-140 grippers for assembly and part handling. The documented workflow reduced three rotator-cuff injuries over two years to zero after automation.
