About Amazon Robotics
Amazon’s warehouse-robotics operation grew from the 2012 acquisition of Kiva Systems, whose drive units brought storage pods to employees. The organization now designs, tests and manufactures robotics in Massachusetts, including Hercules drive units, the Proteus autonomous mobile robot, Sparrow and Vulcan manipulation systems, and integrated storage architectures such as Sequoia.
The technology is deployed inside Amazon rather than sold as a general warehouse-automation product line. Amazon reported its one-millionth robot deployment in 2025 and introduced DeepFleet, a generative-AI foundation model intended to coordinate fleet movement and improve robot travel efficiency by 10%. This operating scale makes the division both a robot manufacturer and a large internal proving ground for mobile manipulation, perception and fulfillment orchestration.
