About Sony
Sony’s robotics work combines complete products with perception components and machine-intelligence research. Aibo uses articulated joints, cameras, microphones and touch sensors to build a changing behavioural profile through onboard processing and cloud services. Sony Mobility also developed the Airpeak aerial platform around professional imaging payloads, while group laboratories study manipulation, interaction and learning for future physical systems.
Sony Semiconductor Solutions supplies image sensors that sit upstream of many robots and automated machines. Conventional CMOS, time-of-flight and event-based sensing can support visual recognition, depth measurement and high-speed motion capture, with customers integrating the sensor into their own camera and compute stack. This places Sony across both finished interactive robots and the imaging layer used by drones, mobile machines and industrial perception systems.

reviewed 2026-07-19 - Sony ended Xperia Hello's communication, home-monitoring and infotainment functions on 31 March 2023 and stopped new downloads of its dedicated apps through Google Play earlier. The affected functions included LINE and Skype communication, remote home viewing, personalised information and conversational behaviour, so surviving powered hardware should not be read as a still-functioning version of the product originally sold.
