R5 and R5+
About
About R5 and R5+
R5 and R5+ are AutoStore Red Line robots for automated cube-storage grids. Each unit travels across the grid, lowers a lifting mechanism to retrieve a requested bin, and carries it to a Port for order picking or replenishment. AutoStore identifies R5 as the fifth generation of its Red Line technology and reports more than 30,000 R5 robots operating across installations in over 65 countries.
R5+ is the taller-capacity variant, extending compatibility from the 220- and 330-millimetre bins used by R5 to include AutoStore's 425-millimetre bin. The two models share a published maximum speed of 3.1 metres per second, acceleration of 0.8 metres per second squared and a lifting speed of 1.6 metres per second. R5 measures 545 millimetres high and weighs 155 kilograms with its battery; R5+ is 645 millimetres high and weighs 159 kilograms.

Source - Hobbii scales global e-commerce fulfillment with AutoStore
2026-02-19 - Deployment - Hobbii’s Greve distribution center ships through 15 localized webshops to more than 80 countries, replacing a manual warehouse workflow that struggled with order sequencing and peak demand. The installation uses 116 R5+ robots, eight CarouselPorts, four RelayPorts and four ConveyorPorts in a goods-to-person system that combines picking and packing into one flow. The current configuration supports up to 16,500 orders in 24 hours, 800–1,000 orders per hour at peak and nearly 70,000 picks in a day, with modular expansion available without stopping operations.
Source - RoboStores scales Dubai 3PL fulfilment with AutoStore
2026-01-06 - Deployment - The system handles multi-client e-commerce fulfilment with five R5 robots, four ConveyorPorts and 10,000 bins, while Put-to-Light supports order consolidation. SynQ WMS connects the AutoStore grid to RoboStores’ ERP, and machine-learning slotting keeps fast-moving items accessible with typical retrievals in 29–40 seconds. The eight-month implementation supports 24/7 operations and helped reduce staffing needs to about four fulfilment operators while improving order accuracy and scalability.
Source - Northern Tool cuts labor costs nearly in half with AutoStore
2025-07-29 - Deployment - Northern Tool’s AutoStore-enabled operation supports more than 100,000 products across direct-to-customer, e-commerce and store-replenishment orders, raising same-day shipping from 17% to 99%. The installation uses 62 R5 robots, 23,175 bins, six CarouselPorts and three ConveyorPorts, with orders picked into right-sized Packsize cartons and moved through automated sealing and labeling. Swisslog SynQ and the AutoStore redesign eliminated a three-level pick module, freed about 50,000 square feet, reduced labor costs by nearly 50% without job losses and left room for further storage growth.
Source - MSC Industrial Supply deploys 41 AutoStore R5 robots for MRO fulfilment
2025-07-25 - Deployment - The brownfield system uses 41 R5 robots, 15,847 bins, eight CarouselPorts and four ConveyorPorts at MSC’s distribution operation. MSC manages more than 570,000 SKUs at its Elkhart facility, and AutoStore brings goods to ergonomic workstations to reduce walking, repetitive lifting and manual picking strain. The deployment delivered nearly 40% labour savings, faster and more predictable order processing, and higher throughput without additional space or labour; Bastian Solutions, part of Toyota Automated Logistics, served as integration partner.
Source - AutoStore scales Ingram Content Group’s high-density fulfilment
2025-05-28 - Deployment - The Grid uses 160 R5 robots, more than 80,000 bins and 31 ports—23 CarouselPorts and eight ConveyorPorts—for automated retrieval and put-away. The system lets Ingram store a broad SKU range in less space while independent robots support simultaneous picking and replenishment during standard and peak periods. AutoStore reports improved accuracy and throughput with fewer full-time equivalents, while the modular design leaves capacity for future expansion.
