About OceanAlpha
OceanAlpha separates its vessels into mission families covering hydrographic survey, inland-water monitoring, rescue, firefighting and security. Survey platforms such as M40P can integrate sonar, radar, cameras and AIS, while autonomous navigation and obstacle avoidance support repeated data-collection routes without carrying a survey crew.
Dolphin 3 takes a different form as a remotely operated rescue buoy that can travel to a person in the water, right itself after capsizing and return automatically. Larger security and firefighting craft use the same principle of combining a specialised hull, mission sensors and remote or autonomous control around one operational workflow rather than treating every vessel as a general-purpose boat.

The V180 combines a DP2-enabled offshore USV with a work-class ROV. The system supports subsea IMR missions at depths up to 3,000 meters. OceanAlpha introduced a new USV-ROV platform at Oceanology International 2026.

Five L25C vessels divided the Wanshan West survey into independently navigated work blocks around one mother ship. The fleet surveyed 2,728 square kilometres and ran 25,560 kilometres of survey lines. The mission finished in 55 days against an 80-day plan, while OceanAlpha reported a 30% reduction in operating costs.

The survey team planned a lattice route and supervised SL20 from a mobile command station. A single-beam echo sounder and RTK GNSS supplied live depth and position data. SL20 surveyed close to and beneath piers that were inaccessible to conventional manned boats.

The vessels collected conductivity, temperature and depth measurements while following survey lines and transmitting data in real time. The trial evaluated communication range, endurance and data transmission for networked observation of air-sea interface parameters.

The expedition included OceanAlpha, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of Zurich. SL20 surveyed Qihu Lake, Jialong Cuo Lake and Galong Cuo Lake at altitudes up to 5,070 m. The largest individual survey covered 5 km² at Galong Cuo Lake.
