Saildrone joins MBARI CANON ocean-observation experiment
Saildrone vehicle SD 1038 surveyed Monterey Bay Canyon with an EK80 echo sounder during MBARI's CANON ocean-observation experiment.
Why it matters
The campaign provides completed, named-vehicle evidence of large-area bioacoustic surveying alongside a multi-platform research fleet in Monterey Bay.

Evidence notes
- SD 1038 carried a Simrad EK80 echo sounder in addition to the standard Saildrone sensor suite.
- The experiment launched from the MARS deep-sea observatory about 20 nautical miles offshore of Monterey.
- The vehicle provided large-scale surveys and continuous context alongside ships, AUVs, gliders, hydrophones and moored instruments.
Company context
Saildrone builds and operates uncrewed surface vehicles for maritime intelligence, ocean mapping, ISR and environmental monitoring. Its platforms combine wind or solar power, onboard sensing and autonomy for long-endurance ocean missions.
