ARMAR-7

About

About ARMAR-7

ARMAR-7 is a wheeled humanoid assistance robot developed by KIT's High Performance Humanoid Technologies laboratory. It is designed to investigate everyday help in human environments, including households and nursing facilities. Spoken interaction lets a person communicate a task, while the ArmarX cognitive architecture connects perception, learning and coordinated robot behaviour.

Two torque-controlled eight-joint arms and underactuated hands provide manipulation, with cameras in the hands and additional camera systems in the head. A knee-and-hip mechanism adjusts torso height and allows bowing, while three omni-wheels provide holonomic movement. The laboratory studies tasks such as opening doors, loading a dishwasher and handing objects to people. ARMAR-7 succeeds ARMAR-III and shares its software architecture with ARMAR-6 and ARMAR-DE, supporting transfer of research methods between platforms.
