About Chef Robotics
Chef Robotics builds robotic meal-assembly modules for prepared-food factories and commercial kitchens. ChefOS controls utensils that pick and portion ingredients from standard hotel pans into trays, bowls, wraps, pizzas and conveyor-fed packages. Vision and manipulation models accommodate variation in food shape, texture and presentation, allowing the same cell to change recipes and placement patterns without dedicated dispensing machinery.
The food-contact path is limited to removable utensils and pans, and the C-001748 robotic module is certified to NSF/ANSI 169 for special-purpose food equipment. Fleet data from production improves manipulation models across recipes and sites. Chef reported more than 100 million servings completed at over a dozen facilities in the United States, Canada and Europe by April 2026, demonstrating operation beyond pilot kitchens.

Timeline
Events
- 2026-10-13 - Product Launch - Physical Intelligence opens Pi API beta to more robot developers
Teams can upload their robot data, launch fine-tuning on PI-managed compute and infrastructure, and run the resulting models through hosted inference. Early users include Argon Robotics, which trained a dish-racking policy within 35 hours, and General Instinct, which trained a server-assembly policy within three days. Beta participation is by application; most showcased applications use cloud-hosted inference, with network connectivity identified as an area for improvement.
Source - 2026-10-07 - Capability - Chef Robotics adopts NVIDIA simulation and motion planning for food assembly
Digital twins test robotic cells against variations in ingredients, containers, utensils and production-line layouts before installation. GPU-accelerated motion planning supports piece picking, multi-deposit assembly and coordinated robot lines in cluttered environments. Chef says customer deployments achieve up to 60% higher labour productivity.
Source - 2026-05-20 - Product Launch - Chef Robotics launches deposit assist end-effector attachment
Chef Robotics launched deposit assist as a hardware attachment for its food-automation robot end effector. The attachment is available in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom under Chef Robotics RaaS pricing.
Source - 2026-04-17 - Production Milestone - Chef Robotics surpasses 100 million servings in production at customer facilities
Chef Robotics announced that its robots have completed 100 million servings in production at customer facilities. The company said its systems are deployed across more than a dozen production facilities in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Chef framed the milestone as evidence that it has built the largest real-world food manipulation dataset in production, supporting continued model improvement and broader ingredient coverage.
Source - 2026-04-09 - Capability - Chef Robotics physical AI models expand into meatpacking tray assembly
Chef Robotics announced that its robots can now automate meatpacking tray assembly for raw, frozen, and precooked proteins. The new application extends Chef's existing piece-picking capability to products such as pork loin filets, chicken breasts, lamb chops, steaks, sausage links, and bratwursts. Chef said the capability supports higher throughput, lower labor dependency, and more consistent presentation across meatpacking and tray assembly lines.
Source - 2026-03-12 - Capability - Chef Robotics introduces robot-to-robot communication for coordinated meal assembly
Chef Robotics launched robot-to-robot communication to coordinate multiple robots depositing ingredients on the same conveyor line. The system uses wireless radios to share tray position and deposit-state data between robots in real time. Chef said the feature is designed to increase throughput on high-speed lines while reducing spillage and missed trays.

Notes
Profile notes
- Chef's production milestone counts ingredient servings inside partially automated meal lines
reviewed 2026-07-19 - Chef Robotics reports production scale in servings handled at customer food factories, where robots typically perform one or a few ingredient-deposit tasks within longer meal-assembly lines. The company deliberately chose partial automation rather than requiring full autonomy from the outset, so its serving count is meaningful real production activity but is not the number of complete meals autonomously prepared by end-to-end robotic kitchens.
