ETH Zurich AutoBike completes autonomous campus ride with Hesai JT128 lidar

The student-built AutoBike proof of concept used one Hesai JT128 as its main perception sensor during an autonomous ride and parking test on the ETH Zurich campus.

  • Ten bachelor students developed the bicycle prototype over roughly nine months at ETH Zurich's Autonomous Systems Lab.
  • The JT128 generated the 3D point cloud used for localisation, obstacle detection, free-space detection and route planning.
  • The team reported a 75 percent success rate on the final day of testing and said further development would be required before public operation.
